Things to Do This Fall Break Around Forsyth & North Georgia 🍂

Fall Break is one of my favorite times of year in Forsyth County. The kids are out of school, the weather finally starts to cool down, and it’s the perfect chance to slow down as a family before the holiday rush.

If you’re staying local this year, you don’t have to travel far to make Fall Break feel like a getaway. North Georgia is full of amazing activities — from pumpkin patches and apple orchards to hiking trails, wineries, and, of course, Lake Lanier.

Here are some of the best things to do this Fall Break right here in our backyard:

1. Visit a Pumpkin Patch or Apple Orchard 🎃🍎

Nothing says fall like picking your own pumpkins and apples.

  • Warbington Farms (Cumming): Pumpkin patch, hayrides, and a corn maze that kids love.

  • Burt’s Pumpkin Farm (Dawsonville): One of North Georgia’s most famous fall spots. Huge pumpkins, hayrides, and gorgeous mountain views.

  • Jaemor Farms (Alto): A little further drive, but worth it for the apple picking, fried pies, and homemade ice cream.

2. Spend a Day at Lake Lanier 🌊

Lake days don’t have to end when summer does. Pack a picnic, rent a pontoon, or just walk the trails around the lake. With the leaves starting to change, the views are beautiful, and it’s a low-stress way to enjoy family time outdoors.

👉 Pro Tip: Pack sweatshirts — fall evenings by the water can get chilly fast.

3. Take a Hike in the North Georgia Mountains ⛰

Fall is hiking season in Georgia. The weather is cooler, and the leaves are starting to show off. Some family-friendly favorites include:

4. Explore a North Georgia Winery 🍷

Okay, moms — this one’s for us. North Georgia has become a hot spot for wineries, and Fall Break is a great excuse for a day trip (or even a girls’ night out).

5. Plan a Cabin Getaway 🪵

If you really want to make Fall Break feel special, book a cabin for a night or two in the North Georgia mountains. Whether it’s Blue Ridge, Ellijay, or Dahlonega, you’ll get cool evenings, mountain air, and a chance to unplug as a family.

Why Fall Break Matters

You don’t need a plane ticket or a week-long vacation to make Fall Break memorable. The best memories often come from simple adventures close to home — hiking together, roasting marshmallows, picking out pumpkins, or just watching the sunset by the lake. That week long break in September is one of my kids’ favorite breaks!

Forsyth County and North Georgia give us the gift of living near so many amazing experiences. All you have to do is take advantage of them.
